The Story
We first met Georgia at a jam session at Christian Howes' Creative Strings Workshop and knew immediately that wanted to collaborate. For the next two years, we were on staff at CSW with team teaching the Youth Camp together! She came down from the Midwest later to teach at our studio in 2018, where she was a hit with our students and studio parents. She has the unique ability to teach deep musical concepts in the most approachable way, and works well with other players' energy whether it's shy or silly.
Our Improvise like a G class includes these themes:

Riffs and licks
Improvising from step zero (anyone can do it)
Hey, I made that!
Building grooves together in different styles
Jam friendly scales (how to stay in the safe zone and when to step out of it)
Rhythmic grooves, chops and more
How students can take these skills and keep going on their own
Looping without a Looper
Building your own set list

Students 8 and up of all skill levels are welcome.
Meet the Teachers
Cellist Neil Fong Gilfillan draws from a lifetime love of eclectic musical inspiration. His favorite kind of work brings the creative energy of a jam session into the classroom.
As a full-time teacher and performer, Neil regularly utilizes his training in creative string playing with jazz violinist Christian Howes and Suzuki Method with Tanya Carey and Andrea Yun.
Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Arlington, Neil now teaches at Chili Dog Strings in Plano. Neil finds real joy in helping his students access the cello with ease and confidence, instructing classical and modern styles both in the studio and through his content online.
Fiddle champ Georgia Rae has been teaching workshops and private lessons for the past 8 years. She has taken her positivity and infectious joy for playing throughout the country to teach various fiddle styles, improvisation and tune writing to players of all ages and abilities.

See more of Georgia at her studio page for Georgia Rae's Sunshine Strings in Burlington, Wisconsin.
